physioSim™ is a US non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to helping students and practitioners in the fields of anatomy and physiology, nursing, medicine, pre-hospital emergency medical services, and health sciences learn medical physiology and clinical skills for the purpose of improving patient care.
The training programs are based upon a sophisticated mathematical computer model that can simulate discrete physiology concepts, isolated and integrated organ system functions, and pathological conditions – all in real-time and under user control. Users can observe the condition of their computer “patient” through simulated invasive and non-invasive monitoring equipment. Future enhancements to the model will enable simulation of physiologic responses to clinical treatment interventions.
PhysioSim’s free training programs will use proven active learning pedagogies combined with real-time simulations of human physiologic function. We believe that true learning takes place when students can practice making critical decisions and observe the consequences of their actions, not just by reading and memorizing facts.
Our learning tools present complex physiology concepts incrementally. We allow players to interact with and perform experimental exercises with the computer human in order to solidify their understanding.
